Around 60 EHS volunteers gathered at the Friends’ Community Garden, North Street, for a BBQ.
It was held to recognise and show our appreciation for all those who support us at EHS events and help with the many tasks involved in running the society. Whether it be volunteering at the hut or at the EHS marquee (organised by Richard Suter and Lyn Davies), by organising trips, opening gardens or regularly contributing to events- from making cakes to putting up gazebos, without this support the society /EHS committee could not provide the diverse programme offered.
The EHS committee catered the event with our treasurer, Rob Turner, taking charge of the BBQ and Chris Shaw on vegetarian BBQ duty! Jane Kidd, Brenda Abbott and Sarah Furness provided the homemade salads and desserts – (meringues and chocolate brownies much enjoyed!) while Colin Beale, our chair, was our wine waiter for the evening, keeping glasses topped up!
Members had the opportunity to socialise and meet new people throughout the party with mingling activities, group picture quizzes. As always members were encouraged to discuss their ideas for future EHS events and for running the society.
The evening ended with the chair thanking all those who help out throughout the year and members left with Christmas cacti (all propagated by Jane!) as tokens of our appreciation.
During the evening, it was lovely to hear how much the event was being enjoyed, and it was really gratifying (for us all/ the committee) to receive the subsequent excellent feedback, which makes being on the committee of a flourishing community organisation so rewarding.
Some of the Feedback
A big thank you to you and all your team for the superb evening yesterday! It was such a success particularly due to the attention to detail you had given it. Flowers on the tables and ‘welcome’ games, quizzes and questionnaires all showed great care and thought and were much appreciated. The food was delicious and cooked well – not always easy to get a charcoal BBQ to the right temperature!!

Thank you very much for the entertainment & food provided yesterday afternoon. The event was most enjoyable and must have taken a lot of organization to get it to run so smoothly. It certainly gave me the opportunity to meet some people who I have not seen for a while and to meet new people. We seemed to be a very happy bunch on table 3 and enjoyed interesting conversations together.

Thank you very much for your efforts yesterday in making the Barbeque such an enjoyable afternoon. As relatively new members, due to the way you organised the event, we were able to meet and chat with lots of other members whilst having a fun time.
