"Planning for a Winter Garden"

Thursday 18th April, 7.30 pm

RHS - Dogwood

Join Mark Porter on the 18th April, when he will share his skill and knowledge of creating a winter garden. Mark says, structure and texture are key. Colour is everywhere in the garden even in winter, while the interplay of light and shade make it deeply atmospheric. His talk will include a demonstration of taking cuttings from dogwood and willow stems, and you will have the opportunity to take some away and try this at home.

Mark is a trustee of the National Garden Scheme and became a vice president of the RHS in 2023, also acting as judge for their show gardens. In his role as chair of Britain in Bloom, he helps to inspire local horticultural groups to bring about positive change in their communities.

For the past nine years, Mark has opened his own garden, the Down House, and vineyard for the NGS. He bought the house, overlooking the Itchen Valley, in 2001 and created the large garden from scratch. With the help of his wife and advice from the designer Chris Beardshaw, he focused on developing a winter garden.
