Trip: Sandhill Farm + Broadlands Garden Show

Saturday 7th June

Trip cost £36 (Incl. coach, drivers tip and entry to both venues)

Join us for a delightful day out at Sandhill Farm, where we’ll enjoy an exclusive guided tour of its stunning gardens with Andy McIndoe, an award-winning horticulturist, garden designer, and author. With over 40 years of experience, Andy will share expert insights into the garden’s design, planting schemes, and seasonal highlights.

This will be followed by a visit to The Garden Show at Broadlands, an excellent opportunity to explore all that summer planting has to offer. This show features specialist growers, garden related goods, artisan designs, homeware products, fashion accessories & delicious country foods. There will also be talks, demonstrations, activities, expert advice and a variety of music & entertainment.

Booking will open on Monday 7th April.
Closing date for bookings Tuesday 6th May.
However we believe this will be very popular trip, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

N.B. A previous expression of interest is NOT a booking, you need to follow the steps below to secure a place on the trip.

To book this trip:

  1. From the 7th April onwards send an email to events@emshs.org.uk stating the names of the members for whom you wish to book.
  2. You will receive an email to confirm if spaces are still available and whether you have a place reserved. (If you have not received a confirmation within 5 hours please resend your initial email).
  3. Once you receive the email from us, confirming there are places available and that we have reserved you a seat, please send us another email with the following information: 1) confirmation of payment method (if you choose “Cheque” Kate will send you the postal address for the cheque delivery), 2) providing a mobile number for each person, and 3) providing an emergency contact number (ICE) for each person in case of emergency on the day.
  4. Make payment ASAP using the information below.
  5. Your reservation will be held for 24 hours if paying by BACS and for next post if paying by cheque.

  • Post to: Kate Rothwell. (In the event you tell us you are paying by cheque, Kate will include the delivery address in her email response to you).
  • DO NOT ‘post-date’ your cheque as we have to make payment to the venues in advance

You will receive an email to confirm that your place/s have been secured once payment has been received.

What to expect on the day

Our journey will be by coach leaving Emsworth at 8.30-8.45 am and returning to Emsworth around 5.00 pm.

Upon arrival at Sandhills we’ll start with refreshments before exploring the gardens. Andy McIndoe will lead us through Sandhill Farm’s beautifully structured landscapes, woodland areas, and year-round points of interest, offering a deeper understanding of its layout, plant choices, and maintenance strategies. Set on a sloping hillside, the garden spans approximately 2.5 acres and provides inspiration for garden enthusiasts of all kinds.

We then travel to Broadlands and the Garden Show, where there will be a variety of refreshment options for lunch, or you can bring a picnic.

The Show has a wide variety of attractions to offer covering different interests, including:

  • Exhibitors: Over 170 stands featuring specialist plants, garden and home accessories, art, design, sculpture, fashion, and a selection of country foods.
  • Expert Talks: On Saturday, entomologist Dr. Ian Bedford will host a ‘Pest Clinic’ (sessions all day) and present ‘The Slimy Truth About Britain’s Slugs’ (1.30pm).
  • Demonstrations: Artisan demonstrations and blacksmithing workshops will be available for attendees.

Need to know:

At Sandhill Farm:

  • Refreshments on arrival
  • The garden is around 2.5 acres in area on a sloping hillside

At Broadlands:

  • Refreshments are available from a variety of stalls or you can bring a packed lunch
  • There are benches around the showground and plenty of tables and chairs in the food areas
  • The showground is fairly level and flat, however the ground quality will depend on the weather preceding and during the show. Electric scooters and wheelchairs shouldn’t have any problems, but manual wheelchairs might struggle if ground conditions aren’t optimal.
  • Facilities include portaloos

Please note that the Terms and Conditions of the Broadlands Garden Show state that there will be no refund in the event of cancellation of their event, including inclement weather. The amount included in the trip cost relating to Broadlands Garden Show is approx £10 per person.
