Hampshire Federation Day Quiz 2025

What’s Federation Day? It’s the day when the AGM of Hampshire Federation of Horticultural Societies is held, along with two talks and an inter-society quiz.

This year the EHS quiz team comprised Debbie Vidler, Angela Baldry, Lyn Davies and Steve Driver. In the morning we enjoyed talks by Mark Porter on ‘The National Garden Scheme’ and Ali Clarke on ‘Preparing for the New Forest Show’.

After lunch we had the AGM. The committee of the HFHS is very small and they are keen to recruit new members and people to help out with running the Hampshire

The quiz was the penultimate event of the day.

Five teams took part: Four Marks, Ropley, Liss, Winchester and Emsworth.

The questions required extensive knowledge of horticulture from identifying photos of Hampshire gardens and unusual views of flowers to testing knowledge of plant pests and diseases.

Emsworth came 2nd equal to start with but were beaten in the tie breaker so we were third, narrowly missing out on a trophy and vouchers for Hardy’s Cottage Plant Nursery.

We did have a prize winner in the raffle however when Lyn won a bottle of wine.
