Visit to Sculpture by the Lakes, Pallington, and St Nicholas Church, Moreton, Dorset 11th September.
We had an almost full coach of 47 people for this trip to the beautiful Sculpture Park and the historic St Nicholas church.
We boarded the coach in the rain but everyone was feeling very hardy and ready for whatever weather the day might bring. As it turned out as we went west the clouds parted and blue sky appeared which gave us lots of sunshine to enjoy the surroundings. Several people suffered from one heavy rainstorm but overall we felt fortunate.
The Sculpture Park has many fine pieces set around the lakes and along the river.
There was also a productive kitchen garden with many flowers still making it colourful alongside a great collection of tomato, squash and pumpkin varieties. The whole park has been created artistically and sensitively and has a very tranquil atmosphere.
St Nicholas Church is unique for its engraved glass windows by Sir Laurence Whistler. The church was bombed in 1940 and the windows were created as part of the post war refurbishment.
We were also able to see the grave of Lawrence of Arabia in the nearby cemetery.
I hope you can get an idea of both venues from these photos.
